I remember having afternoon tea with our Bishop and we were talking over some homeschooling issues and difficulties we all face from time to time. He replied to us all, "Well...it is better your children stay at home and be simple, than have them go to school and lose their Souls." I find these words very consoling when my house and school room turns to chaos!

During Father Rober't Fox's (director of Fatima Family Apostolate) visit to Australia in 2001 we held an evening social for him and a number of people associated with the Apostolate. As hostess, I had little time to sit and talk at length with him or notice what my children were doing. At the end of the evening as I was walking with Father to the front door he turned around and asked did I homeschool my children. When I answered in the affirmative he replied "I thought so. They are so innocent."

After the first year of homeschooling went well we decided to venture out and try some homeschooling camps in 2007, the first one being Springbrook after Easter. It was well organised with constant activities for children and adults. By the last night children were exhausted but still wanted to run off the last bit of energy. By 9 pm I decided to send my son to bed but where did he disappear to along with all the other 9-11 year old boys? After a comprehensive hunt, the only two places left to search were the chapel and the lookout. As the lookout was an uphill black walk at night, I checked the chapel first and there were the boys saying a final rosary together. This incident has been one of the many spiritual gifts of homeschooling.
